FAQ

Common questions

Does Forte make up experience I don't have?+
No. Every rewrite is grounded strictly in your original resume. Forte cannot invent job titles, metrics, tools, or skills that are not already there. If it cannot find supporting evidence in what you wrote, it will not add the claim. The tailoring prompt enforces this rule on every bullet, and a separate evaluation pass flags any output that drifts from the source so the model can repair it before you see the result.
What does the ATS score actually measure?+
It measures how closely your resume matches the specific job description you pasted, based on keyword coverage, required-vs-preferred qualification alignment, experience framing, and role-level signals. It is not a simulation of any particular ATS software, those systems are proprietary and vary by company, but the underlying signals are the same ones any recruiter or modern parsing tool is looking for. Think of it as an honest fit score for the role you are targeting, with the original and tailored scores shown side by side so you can see the actual improvement.
How is this different from asking ChatGPT to tailor my resume?+
ChatGPT and other general-purpose chat models will invent experience to fill gaps when you ask them to make a resume match a job description. Forte cannot. The tailoring pipeline is wired to refuse any claim that does not trace back to the source resume, and a second model scores the output for fabrication risk before the result is returned. You also get a structured before-and-after diff, the original and new ATS scores, and the reasoning behind each rewrite, none of which a chat interface provides.
What file formats can I export?+
PDF and DOCX. PDF is the default and preserves formatting exactly across operating systems and screen sizes. DOCX is available for situations where a recruiter or portal specifically asks for a Word document. Both formats are generated from the same structured resume data, so the content stays consistent between exports.
Is my resume data used to train AI models?+
No. Your resume and job description are not used to train AI models. They are processed by AI providers solely to generate your tailored result, and account content is handled according to our Privacy Policy. You can also delete any application from your account at any time, which removes the stored resume and cover letter and clears any associated indexed content from your resume history.
How many resumes can I create?+
Free accounts include three credits, which means three full job applications (tailored resume plus cover letter for each role). Pro plans include up to one hundred job applications per month under a fair-use cap. Credit packs of three or ten are also available if you only need a small batch. You can compare the options in the pricing section below.
What's the difference between tailoring and regenerating?+
Tailoring creates a fresh version of your resume from scratch against a job description, starting from your original resume each time. Regenerating refines an existing tailored version using feedback you provide, which is useful when you want to adjust the tone, push harder on a specific skill, or react to interviewer feedback on a previous version. Regenerations do not spend a new credit and are capped at five per artifact type.
What happens to my original resume?+
It is preserved and used as the source of truth for every tailored version you create. Forte never overwrites or replaces it. Each tailored resume is stored as a separate application alongside the original, so you can compare versions, re-export old ones, or start over from the original at any time.
How long does a tailored resume take to generate?+
Most runs finish in twenty to forty seconds end to end. That includes parsing your uploaded file, evaluating the original against the job description, generating the tailored version, re-scoring it, and rendering the preview. The exact time depends on resume length, job description length, and current model load, but the typical experience is well under a minute.
Can I review the changes before exporting?+
Yes, and we strongly recommend it. Every tailored resume comes with a change log that shows exactly which bullets were rewritten, what the original text was, what the new text is, and why the change was made. You can keep the version, refine it with feedback, or revert to a previous tailoring at any time. Nothing leaves Forte without you reading it first.
