What makes it different

Evidence-grounded

Forte writes only from what is in your resume. It cannot invent credentials, titles, or metrics. Every claim is defensible in an interview.

Targeted to the role

The cover letter is written against the specific job description, not a generic template. Required skills and keywords from the JD appear naturally.

Consistent with your resume

The same experience, the same voice. Forte uses the same source material for your cover letter as your tailored resume, so both documents align.

FAQ

Cover letter questions

How long is a Forte cover letter?+
Three to four short paragraphs, around two hundred to three hundred words depending on how much specific evidence the resume supports. That is the length recruiters consistently say they prefer: long enough to communicate fit, short enough to read in under a minute. Forte does not pad with filler sentences to look more thorough. If the letter says everything useful in three paragraphs, it ends.
Will the cover letter sound robotic?+
Probably not, and the reason is that it is grounded in your real experience rather than a template. The phrasing is generated fresh each time from your resume content, so two letters for the same role from different candidates read differently because the underlying experience is different. We do enforce one consistent rule: no em dashes, no AI cliches, no opening with 'I am writing to express my interest'. The output reads more like a thoughtful candidate than a chatbot.
Can I edit the cover letter before sending?+
Yes, and you should at least read it. Forte returns the cover letter in a structured editor on your dashboard where you can refine it with feedback (make it shorter, more formal, more conversational, push harder on a specific skill) or open the regen panel to ask for a deeper rewrite. The final PDF or DOCX export is generated from whatever version you approve.
Is the cover letter consistent with my tailored resume?+
Yes, and that consistency is the point. Both documents are generated from the same source resume and the same job description, with the cover letter prompt explicitly instructed to use the same framing of your experience that the tailored resume uses. A recruiter reading the two together sees one coherent story, not a resume and a cover letter that read like they were written by two different candidates with different careers.
Do I need a separate cover letter for each job?+
If a role asks for a cover letter, yes. A generic cover letter sent to multiple roles signals lower effort than no cover letter at all. Forte's cover letter generation is fast enough that doing one per application is realistic: the same upload and JD paste that produces your tailored resume also produces the cover letter, in the same flow, in the same minute.
Does the cover letter cost an extra credit?+
No. One credit covers one full job application, which means a tailored resume and a cover letter for the same role. You can generate them together or generate one first and add the other later from the My Applications page. The second artifact does not cost a new credit as long as it is for the same application.
What if the job listing does not ask for a cover letter?+
Including one is almost always positive, never negative, when the letter is short and specific. Recruiters consistently report that a well-written cover letter helps a borderline candidate get into the interview pile. The main risk is sending a long generic letter that wastes the reader's time. Forte's letters are short and specific by design, so the upside is real and the downside is minimal.
Can I refine the cover letter after generation?+
Yes. The dashboard has a refine panel with quick tone chips (shorter, more formal, more conversational, strengthen opening) and a free-form feedback field. You can refine up to five times per application without spending a new credit, and the refinements draw on your original resume, not a chained version of the previous letter, so each refinement is grounded in real evidence rather than drifting toward generic language.
